Born in Kansas in 1987 and raised in rural Missouri, Paul later became a resident of Phoenix, Arizona. In his first year of high school, he was introduced to art. He had the option of taking Freshman Agriculture or an introductory art course, and considering that he lived in a rural area, he decided to try something new. Paul’s imagination was fueled by the fiction novels he had read, and he wanted his art to also take people into a different world, an escape from reality even if only for a moment. His interest in the fantasy genre, in particular J.R.R. Tolkein and Terry Brooks, led him to discover the illustrators Tim and Greg Hildebrandt who painted and drew spectacular fantasy scenes.
Paul equally found himself inspired by the mono-chromatic illusions of MC Escher and the dream-like landscapes of Salvador Dali. To Paul, these artists provided a moment's escape into a vivid world of dreams and adventure. Sometimes with a simple twist of familiar reality, Paul works to capture timeless worlds where the fantasy is not always so apparent.
Paul received a Bachelor of Fine Arts with an emphasis in Computer Animation from Missouri State University. Although Digital Arts was his collegiate focus, traditional mediums such as acrylic drew him back into painting with multiple commissions within his community around the area of Brunswick, Missouri. In July 2015, Paul moved to Phoenix, Arizona where he has become an active member in the Laveen Art League and a member of the Arizona Art Alliance. He also became a juried artist in the competitive Glendale Arts Council Annual Show and continues to exhibit his work actively with these groups each year.
In addition to acrylic, Paul is currently evolving his career in jewelry artistry utilizing his 3D animation software to design jewelry using 3D printing technology. He has also self-published several books including 2 children’s books that he illustrated called; “Baby’s Counting Book” and “Two Cats, One House.” Paul currently resides in the South Phoenix/Laveen Village area and continues to create works of art from new inspiration around him.
